The Surface Pro 4 is the fourth-generation Surface-series 2-in-1 tablet/laplet, designed, developed, marketed, and produced by Microsoft. The Surface Pro 4 was announced on October 6, 2015 alongside the Surface Book and an updated dock. These devices will be released and shipped to customers beginning on October 26th. Surface Book is a Windows 10 convertible laptop designed and produced by Microsoft. Unveiled on October 6, 2015, it is part of the Microsoft Surface family of devices. The Surface Book is distinguished primarily by the design of its keyboard dock, which features a "dynamic fulcrum hinge" that expands as it is folded open, as well as a secondary battery and GPU that are used while docked.
As with other Surface devices, the Surface Book consists of a tablet with 13.5-inch, 3000x2000 resolution display, and a keyboard attachment that allows it to function similarly to a traditional laptop; both components are constructed from machined magnesium. Unlike previous Surface models, as well as the Surface Pro 4, the Surface Book's keyboard dock utilizes a "dynamic fulcrum hinge", which compresses when closed, and expands outwards when opened. The hinge design allows the tablet portion to be held up at an angle resembling a traditional laptop screen without the use of a kickstand, and increases the physical room between the dock and the tablet. The tablet connects to the keyboard dock via clips that attach to a series of "muscle wire" locks; the tablet can be undocked by pressing a release button.
The CPU and other system components are housed within the tablet portion, while the keyboard dock houses resources available when docked, including a glass multitouch trackpad, a larger secondary battery, as well as a dedicated Nvidia GPU on some models, two USB 3.0 ports, and an SD card slot. The tablet screen can also be attached in "draw mode", where the screen faces outward when folded to allow access to the keyboard dock's resources, while still using the device like a tablet. When detached from the keyboard dock, the tablet uses integrated graphics instead. Surface Book models are powered by 6th generation Intel Core processors, including options with Core i5 and i7 processors, Nvidia GeForce graphics, and up to 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage.
