o be fair, Singapore blogger Juli ‘Bun Bun’ did preface her no-holds-barred live blog of a couple’s wedding over the weekend with the caveat: ‘Today is the wedding of my husband [Mr Mode’s] good friend. I don’t know the bride at all nor am I close to the groom.’ So, perhaps ‘friend’ is pushing it. The forthright blogger also pointed out that the couple didn’t read her blog and she wouldn’t reveal their identities, so there’s that. But, it’s a brave bride who invites Juli to her future nuptials after she proceeded to give a detailed critique of the couple’s big day on her blog.
She began her post: ‘I’m worried sick at how the day’s events are unraveling by the bit [sic].’ Her concerns began with the bride’s mode of transport. ‘Look at the bridal car,’ she wrote. ‘I mean it’s not that I have sky high expectations (just a bit high but not sky high lol) but this…what’s that chunk of grass doing there huh? The staff were at it for one whole hour.’ She goes on: ‘It was only when he told me this contraption cost THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS that my heart went out to him [the groom] too. $300?! For this??’ Juli also happily shared with her followers some of the drama from the morning. Long story short: the groom accidentally locked himself out of his room and had to call a locksmith, while his parents got into a massive fight about the seating plan. And nobody mention the cupcakes.
Juli went on to add that the bride looked like she was ‘drowning in her gown’, and people kept mistaking her for the bride instead. The hapless bride also gets the thumbs down for her choice of accessories. The tiara ‘crowded’ her hair and as for the dangling earrings plus necklace? ‘Tsk’. Things didn’t get much better at the reception. Juli didn’t think much of the speeches or the couple’s decision to use the restaurant staff as MCs. Although she does offer one grudging concession: ‘The food was pretty alright. The dinner ended before 10pm, rare for a Chinese wedding dinner’.
Despite her harsh critique, Juli went on to say she wished the couple well and felt sad for them because they got ripped off. ‘I don’t think the couple didn’t make the effort, rather, they didn’t get a good deal and the quality is bad,’ she explained to one follower. While many online fans were entertained by her live commentary, others felt for the bride. ‘Hmm not very nice if the couple happens to see your post and comments about their wedding I think… even if the bride is chill I think she’d feel bad,’ one person wrote. Juli has since removed all her posts from her blog, writing: ‘On second thoughts I have decided to take down this post, just in case. I don’t want people taking my words out of context.’ We just hope no one tells the bride.
