Carli Lloyd Biography Wins Golden Ball in WWC 2015Carli Anne Lloyd (born July 16, 1982) is an American professional soccer midfielder who currently plays for the Houston Dash in the National Women's Soccer League and the United States women's national soccer team. She is a two-time Olympic gold medalist and scored the gold medal-winning goals in the finals of both the 2008 Summer Olympics and the 2012 Summer Olympics.

She has represented the United States at three FIFA Women's World Cup tournaments: the 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup, in which she helped the U.S. win bronze; the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup, in which the U.S. won silver; and the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup, where Lloyd led the U.S. to its third title, scoring six goals and being chosen as the tournament's most valuable player. She has played in over 200 matches for the U.S. national team and scored over 50 goals.

Lloyd played professionally for the Chicago Red Stars, Sky Blue FC, and Atlanta Beat in Women's Professional Soccer (WPS). She was allocated to the Western New York Flash for the inaugural season of the National Women's Soccer League in 2013 helping the team win the regular season championship.

For the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup in Canada, while Abby Wambach served as the United States captain for the opener against Australia, plus games against Nigeria and Colombia, Lloyd wore the captain armband for the team's other four games. Lloyd scored goals in all games of the knockout stage, including collecting a hat trick in the game's opening 16 minutes during the final against Japan. For her efforts in leading the United States to a record third Women's World Cup, she won the Golden Ball as the best player of the tournament. While Lloyd's six goals were enough to match Celia Sasic as the tournament top scorer, Sasic won the Golden Boot for playing less minutes, leaving Lloyd the Silver Boot.
